July 2025: Capital Grants are now open for applications!

DEFRA have announced, as of 3rd July:

Capital Grants are now open for applications!

The new round has an allocated budget of £150 million with the scheme likely to close once it is spent.

There are 78 capital items available to achieve specific environmental benefits within 6 groups:

• Air quality
• Assessments
• Boundaries, trees and orchards
• Improvements
• Natural flood management
• Water quality

This round includes new items such as accreditation for educational visits (VED1), Assessing woodland condition (FY7) and creating a wildfire checklist (WF1). Many old favourites such as hedgerow planting, fencing and concrete renewal have made a return at the same payment rates, however there are now funding limits as follows:

•        Air quality options – £25,000 maximum
•        Boundaries, trees and orchards options – £35,000 maximum
•        Natural flood management options – £25,000 maximum
•        Water quality options – £25,000 maximum

Just as the last variation of the scheme, Capital Grant agreements last for three years to give you plenty of time to carry out the works, you can also only make one application per calendar year.
